#ALTERNATIVE TO VARNISH AND TO CHROME VI
NANO PRECISION FOR THE APPLICATION OF LOGOS, ULTRAFINE PATTERNS,… IN FULL COLOR!
STABLE AND ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY ALTERNATIVE
At the present time, when an external component requires engraving in black in the form of an inscription or a pattern, two solutions can be envisaged:
• applying a varnish
• applying black chromium
POSITIVE COATING offers an alternative to these techniques which:
• mitigates the deterioration of varnishes, which are UV-sensitive
• prevents the need to use processes which could bring humans into contact with toxic substances which are harmful to health
The process of electrolytic deposition of black chromium uses hexavalent chromium – also known as chrome VI – during its production, a product which is now in the European Commission’s line of fire. The REACH regulation will prohibit the use of hexavalent chromium from January 2025.
It is described as toxic to organisms and potentially carcinogenic.
Chromium VI is used in the watchmaking industry, in particular for two-tone decoration of engravings on the backs and bezels of steel watch cases.
Although chromium, once applied, no longer presents a risk to the health of the
customers, the desire is to protect those who come into contact with it during its application.
